RILEY: THE PAST… THE PRESENT… THE FUTURE…

Mention the name Riley to anyone with even a passing knowledge of snooker and the recognition is immediate.

For Riley pool table stands for everything that other companies envy yet admire. For the tradition that comes of over a century at the forefront of the game. For the commitment to craftsmanship in every detail that players can see- as well as all those that they can’t. And for the passion for innovation, without which tradition is merely an excuse for looking backwards- not forwards in expectation of even greater things to come.

Having started life in Manchester in the 1890’s as a sports shop, Riley quickly became the largest manufacturer of cricket bats in the world before expanding what had started as a sideline: billiard tables.

By 1910, the company was making each year around 800 full-sized snooker pool tables, as well as a similar number of convertible tables and 4,000 portable pool tables.

In little more than a decade, Riley pool table owned nearly 40 billiard halls and its tables had made their first appearance at the World Professional championship.

A catalogue of the 1930’s demonstrates the company’s commitment to players throughout the world. From tiny clubs and customers paying on a small dining table, through to stately homes and the demands of the small band of professionals, Riley pool table offered an impressive selection of tables, cues, balls, lighting… in fact, everything for the player looking for excellent quality at an affordable price.

Decades of mergers and acquisitions had already passed when snooker began its meteoric rise in public popularity in the 1970’s, thanks to the advent of colour television. Riley pool table was well placed to grow with this new wave of popularity of cue sports.

As Riley passed through the first decade of its second century, a new opportunity appeared. The formation of the BCE-Riley Group has set relaunch of the much-loved company.
