Efficient & Economical
High levels of humidity left unchallenged, can be a major problem in an indoor pool environment. Water evaporating from the pool or spa surface increases air humidity, and can eventually lead to mould or even structural damage or collapse. In the past, the conventional approach to combating high humidity came in the form of wasteful air extraction from the pool hall. Nowadays, the science of humidity control has moved into another realm.

The advanced range of Vaporex dehumidifiers provides an efficient and economical solution : high-performance, low-cost units - Vaporex dehumidifiers minimize the need for costly air extraction.

Operating on the heat pump principle, these high-performance units re-circulate pool air, therefore removing the moisture content and delivering warm, dry air back to the pool hall. By working in this way, they maintain a comfortable humidity level, minimize condensation and keep heating costs at the lowest possible level.

Automatic Control, Assured Comfort - Each Vaporex dehumidifier is equipped with a variable humidistat for automatic control. The recommended humidity level is set between 60% and 65% RH which ensures a comfortable environment.

Energy & Cost Efficient
As well as minimizing heating costs by re-circulating air, the Vaporex heat pump system works on an efficient 3:1 heat / electricity ratio, diverting energy back to the pool hall.

Rapid Installation, Flexible Operation
The Vaporex units are self contained units that are installer friendly. The option of installing at high or low level, through the wall or floor mounted makes the Vaporex versatile in its application.

Low Temperature Operation
The pool hall construction requires protection when not in use and, for economy reasons, the air temperature might be lowered when unoccupied for long periods. If the pool hall air temperature could drop below 17°C it is strongly advisable to use the defrost version which will operate down to an air temperature of 0°C.

Air Heater Facility
Models 33 and 55 can be supplied with LPHW heater batteries which will provide pool room air heating, thus eliminating the need for separate fan heaters and / or radiators. 3kW heating is available on the 33 model, 5kW on the 55 model. Models with electric heating elements are also available. Model 30 provides 2kW heat and Model 50 provides 4kW of heat.

An air thermostat is necessary for all models with air heating facility; One thermostat is included with each new Vaporex with heating facility.

Through The Wall (TTW)
Where there is a preference to place the dehumidifier in an adjacent plant room, the Vaporex are also available in a TTW variant. Supplied with full wall brackets and decorative grilles for the air ducts, the TTW is a useful option for confined space or particular aesthetic demands.

Available in five formats :-

  • Standard- dehumidifier only
  • Standard- dehumidifier with defrost. (Defrost units are required if the pool hall air temperature is below 17°C)
  • Dehumidifier & Integral Heater Coil (requiring low pressure boiler hot water- LPHW)
  • Dehumidifier & Electric Resistance Heater
  • Floor mounted Through The wall (for mounting internally on opposite side of pool hall wall. c/w duct sleeve and grill kit for walls up to 150mm)

LPHW Heating Outputs:

- Model 33 LPHW (with water supply @ 80°C) = 3kW
- Model 55 LPHW = 5kW
- Model 30 Electric Resistance  = 2kW
- Model 50 Electric Resistance  = 4kW

The attractive and timeless design of the Vaporex models conceals a super quiet, high efficiency dehumidification technology which adapts perfectly to the demands of different pool types and configurations. A Calorex dehumidifier helps in two ways :- it protects your pool environment and reduces your costs!

Why dehumidify?
An indoor swimming pool is a wonderful leisure and exercise environment but the evaporation from the water surface poses real problems for the building structure. Prolonged exposure to high humidity causes walls, decorative finishes and roofs to deteriorate rapidly. Care must be taken to use the correct materials and techniques for the building and a Vaporex dehumidifier which will continuously remove excess humidity from the air. Bathers appreciate comfortable humidity in the range of 55%-65%.

Energy Saving
Removing humidity from the air enables the Vaporex to absorb latent energy and return it to the pool air as useful air heating. Its heat pump technology converts 2.5kW to air heating for every 1kW of electricity consumed- a real bonus to running costs!

Air heating
Models can provide pool hall primary air heating when fitted with optional low pressure hot water batteries (LPHW). Connection of the Vaporex dehumidifier to a hot water supply from a boiler permits the dehumidifier to distribute warm air as well as dehumidified air around the pool hall. Selecting this option usually eliminates the need for separate fan heaters or radiators. The 33/55 provides 3 & 5 kW of air heating respectively. Electric air heating is also available, providing 2kW and 4kW of heat respectively.

Through the wall
When it is more convenient to mount the Vaporex units in a plant room adjacent to the pool hall, the TTW variant provides all necessary items including wall grilles and air turning ducts.

Defrost
For maximum operating capacity over a wide range of temperatures the defrost models are able to operate down to 5°C thus allowing users to reduce the pool hall air temperatures over covered pools during periods of non-use without losing the protection of their dehumidification system. A big plus for the energy conscious!

How does a Calorex dehumidifier work?

Calorex dehumidifiers are fully self-contained, packaged units which incorporate an air circulation fan and a totally CFC free refrigeration circuit. The fan draws room air into the machine passing it firstly across a refrigerated heat exchanger (evaporator). This cools the air, causing the moisture in the air-stream to be precipitated onto the evaporator as water.

The electrical driving energy, the energy recovered from the air-stream and the latent energy gained from the dehumidification process is combined and fed to the refrigeration condenser which is thereby heated. The cool dry air from the evaporator passes across this heated condenser before being passed back into the room, dry and warm. The moisture collected from the process is fed away to waste.

Due to the unique nature of a refrigeration circuit, energy removed from the air during the dehumidification process is converted into useable heat. Typically, for every 1kW of Electrical energy that a dehumidifier consumes, it will give out 2.5kW of heat energy. Thus by removing moisture from the air, rather than heating it to a high temperature, Calorex dehumidifiers will dry in a gentle, more controllable manner. This alleviates possible material shrinkage and cracking problems associated with high temperature drying methods and saves substantial running costs.

Why dry by dehumidification?

Dry air is a laboratory phenomenon. Atmospheric air will always contain moisture, often in quantities that can cause problems to materials, manufacturing processes and create human discomfort. Spaces containing high airborne moisture content (humidity) will suffer from damp, condensation and unpleasant odours. Traditionally the problem was disguised by the use of heat or ventilation. This process is exceptionally energy inefficient and reliant on introducing outside air that is generally not suitable unless expensively heated.

By comparison, Calorex Dehumidifiers recirculate the internal air and positively, in a controllable, efficient manner remove moisture from it. In doing so, the humidity can be controlled without the need for heat. Further, outside air conditions have little effect on the dehumidification efficiency.

As an added bonus Calorex dehumidifiers will convert latent energy recovered from the air during the dehumidification process into sensible heat. Typically 2.5kW of background heat for every 1kW of power consumed can be given back to the room, so turning unwanted moisture into heat at a fraction of the direct heating cost!
