Can You Actually Swim in a Swim Spa?

If you’ve been considering a hot tub for your garden, you may have noticed that we also stock Swim Spas. Larger than a hot tub and rectangular in shape, a Swim Spa (or therapy pool) requires much less space than a conventional above ground or in-ground swimming pool and can double as a hot tub. Perfect if you are an avid swimmer or need a place to relax.

But can you actually swim in a Swim Spa?

Yes, you absolutely can! Swim Spas are designed so that you can swim against a current for as long as you like without the need to ever turn, change direction or avoid other swimmers in your lane.  This is made possible by the swim jet system that helps to keep you centred in the pool and provides different levels of resistance - allowing you to choose an easy or hard swim. A Swim Spa is longer in length than a hot tub, starting at around 13ft in length and 7ft in width, but much smaller than a standard swimming pool, so if you thought that you'd never be able to have your own swimming pool in your garden - think again!

5 Strokes for your Swim Spa

Front Crawl

A great stroke for improving your swimming speed and strength, front crawl is great for targeting your arms and back and improving your breathing rhythm.

Backstroke

A slower resting stroke, on your back with your face out of the water, this is also great for your arms and back.

Sidestroke

Slightly different in that you swim on your side using a scissor kick motion and straight arms to pull you through the water, this stroke is great for improving the side muscles of your core (remember to work each side equally).

Breaststroke

Another easy and slow stroke that targets your arms, legs and chest, moving both your arms and legs in circular motions - like a frog.

Butterfly

The most demanding of the strokes as it puts your entire core to work as well as your shoulders, arms, back and chest.

Additional Benefits of Owning a Swim Spa

Burning calories

Swimming in a Swim Spa is a great way to burn calories working all of your major muscle groups to help build stamina and strength and it’s a fun way to exercise. Many athletes, not just swimmers, use Swim Spas regularly to train their bodies - cyclists, runners, football players and dancers for instance.  However, you don’t need to be an athlete to enjoy swimming and create a healthy work out regime for your body.

Therapy and rehab exercises

After an injury or illness, swimming is often recommended by health professionals as part of a rehab regime, known as hydrotherapy.  The support of the water, heat and massaging jets all provide a low impact workout therapy for your joints and muscles and the ability to regulate the strength of the jets helps to tailor your resistance training. Please always seek professional medical advice before beginning any therapy or rehab exercises.

Relaxation

A Swim Spa also provides a fantastic hot tub experience.  The warm water and relaxing massage jets are a great way to wind down after a workout or a stressful day.  Did you know that sitting at a desk for many hours at a time can put the body under as much stress as digging a ditch?  Many Swim Spas have built in seating with massaging jets - so you get the best of both worlds!

Entertaining

With added seating and more space than a conventional hot tub, your Swim Spa can be the perfect place to entertain -.

Notes on Delivery of your Swim Spa: Please note that a crane or other lifting equipment will be required to be arranged and paid for locally by you.

Positioning: This MUST be done with a crane. The crane company MUST supply spreader bars (these bars push the lifting slings apart above the Swim Spa so that it is not crushed under its own weight).

Site Access: The Swim Spa is normally delivered on a curtain-sided artic truck. Your crane company will need to ensure that there is sufficient access for their vehicles as well as the delivery vehicle.
