Five Pool Cleaning Essentials To Keep You Swimming Happily

Your new pool is up and running and everyone is enjoying the luxury and fun that comes with having your own pool in the back garden. But what do you do when the water starts to look less than clean? Do you drain it, refill it and heat it back up again with clean water - a process that takes time and you will probably need to do a few times over the summer months?

Pool cleanliness and hygiene is important and it is more cost effective to invest in some cleaning supplies to keep the pool a safe and fun place to enjoy. At Splash & Relax we have everything you need this summer! Here are 5 Pool Cleaning Essentials that we recommend:

1. Filter Pumps

Our range of pool filters are essential to the cleanliness and usability of your pool and our range of cartridge and sand filters are ideal. Cartridge filters are an excellent choice and can filter the water down to an impressive 10 microns, clearing dirt and debris particles from your pool water leaving it sparkling clean.

With a sand filter, water flows into the large globe and through the sand inside, which traps particles as small as 20 microns, and the clean water is then returned to the pool.

Our range of cartridge filters, sand filters and silica sand can be found here. Not sure which filter system is best for your pool? Contact our team today for advice.

2. Pool Chemicals

If you intend for your pool to be in action all summer, the best way to ensure that the water is always clean and hygienic is also to add chlorine and an algae controller to your water alongside the use of your chosen filter.
Chlorine is added to pool water because it kills bacteria such as salmonella and E.Coli as well as germs that cause viruses such as diarrhoea and swimmer’s ear - a must have if your kids and their friends will be in the pool a lot this summer!

Adding an algicide to the pool water will keep algae and mould from growing whilst working alongside the chlorine to keep the water balanced and free of bacteria and germs.

Our range of pool chemicals and starter kits can be found here - if you’re not sure what you need, give us a call on 01403 800325 and we‘ll be happy to help.

3. Water Testing Kits

An important part of ensuring that your water is clean, fresh and hygienic, is PH and chlorine level testing. We stock a range of PH testing kits and, once added to your water, kits for testing the chlorine levels. You can find our range of testing kits here.

4. Cleaning Tools

Floating leaves and debris can easily litter your pool or spa and are often too big to pass through a filter system so it is important that you remove these to prevent clogging your filter system or jets. You may also find that your liner needs a wipe down from time to time. At Splash & Relax we stock a wide range of nets, brushes, sponges and pool vacuums to suit your needs - see the range here.

5. Pool Covers

Another way of protecting your pool water from stray leaves, debris and also heat loss is to use a pool cover when it is not in use. Over 90% of a pool's heat is lost through the water surface, so for the summer months, consider a solar or heat retention cover. These covers harness the energy of the sun to heat the water and prevent the heat from escaping back out. So not only are you keeping the debris out, you are also saving money on heating your pool by harnessing the natural power of the sun! Solar pool covers are cut to size so you can be sure to get the best fit for your pool.  Check out the range here.

For the winter months, we stock a range of thicker pool covers that stretch over the edges of your pool or spa to keep out dirt and debris, as well as prevent evaporation of the pool water. During the winter, here in the UK, you can probably expect a large amount of rainfall - which can easily cause your pool cover to sag in the middle - we also stock Air Pillows - place one underneath the centre of your pool cover to ensure that the rainwater falls away, rather than collecting in the middle. You can view the range of winter pool covers here.
