The attractive and timeless design of the Calorex 44 and 66 models conceals a super quiet, high efficiency dehumidification technology which adapts perfectly to the demands of different pool types and configurations. A Calorex dehumidifier helps in two ways :- it protects your pool environment and reduces your costs!

Why dehumidify?
An indoor swimming pool is a wonderful leisure and exercise environment but the evaporation from the water surface poses real problems for the building structure. Prolonged exposure to high humidity causes walls, decorative finishes and roofs to deteriorate rapidly. Care must be taken to use the correct materials and techniques for the building and a Calorex dehumidifier which will continuously remove excess humidity from the air. Bathers appreciate comfortable humidity in the range of 55%-65%.

Energy Saving
Removing humidity from the air enables the Calorex to absorb latent energy and return it to the pool air as useful air heating. Its heat pump technology converts 2.5kW to air heating for every 1kW of electricity consumed- a real bonus to running costs!

Each unit is supplied complete with 2 installation kits so that the best choice of position can be made:-
- Wall mount - with wall bracket, fixings, and vibration isolation.
- Floor mount - with feet which are adjustable in height and are vibration isolated.

The position of the air outlet grille is adjustable to permit horizontal or vertical airflow.

Air heating
Models 44 and 66 can provide pool hall primary air heating when fitted with optional low pressure hot water batteries (LPHW). Connection of the Calorex dehumidifier to a hot water supply from a boiler permits the dehumidifier to distribute warm air as well as dehumidified air around the pool hall. Selecting this option usually eliminates the need for separate fan heaters or radiators. The DH44/66 provides 3 & 5 kW of air heating respectively. Calorex LPHW units are supplied with a three way valve internally mounted and wired for control by an optional 12V thermostat. Electric air heating is also available, providing 2kW and 4kW of heat respectively.

Through the wall
When it is more convenient to mount the Calorex units in a plant room adjacent to the pool hall, the TTW variant provides all necessary items including wall grilles and air turning ducts. LPHW option is available with TTW.

Defrost
For maximum operating capacity over a wide range of temperatures the 44/66 are able to operate down to 5°C thus allowing users to reduce the pool hall air temperatures over covered pools during periods of non-use without losing the protection of their dehumidification system. A big plus for the energy conscious!

How does a Calorex dehumidifier work?

Calorex dehumidifiers are fully self-contained, packaged units which incorporate an air circulation fan and a totally CFC free refrigeration circuit. The fan draws room air into the machine passing it firstly across a refrigerated heat exchanger (evaporator). This cools the air, causing the moisture in the air-stream to be precipitated onto the evaporator as water.

The electrical driving energy, the energy recovered from the air-stream and the latent energy gained from the dehumidification process is combined and fed to the refrigeration condenser which is thereby heated. The cool dry air from the evaporator passes across this heated condenser before being passed back into the room, dry and warm. The moisture collected from the process is fed away to waste.

Due to the unique nature of a refrigeration circuit, energy removed from the air during the dehumidification process is converted into useable heat. Typically, for every 1kW of Electrical energy that a dehumidifier consumes, it will give out 2.5kW of heat energy. Thus by removing moisture from the air, rather than heating it to a high temperature, Calorex dehumidifiers will dry in a gentle, more controllable manner. This alleviates possible material shrinkage and cracking problems associated with high temperature drying methods and saves substantial running costs.

Why dry by dehumidification?

Dry air is a laboratory phenomenon. Atmospheric air will always contain moisture, often in quantities that can cause problems to materials, manufacturing processes and create human discomfort. Spaces containing high airborne moisture content (humidity) will suffer from damp, condensation and unpleasant odours. Traditionally the problem was disguised by the use of heat or ventilation. This process is exceptionally energy inefficient and reliant on introducing outside air that is generally not suitable unless expensively heated.

By comparison, Calorex Dehumidifiers recirculate the internal air and positively, in a controllable, efficient manner remove moisture from it. In doing so, the humidity can be controlled without the need for heat. Further, outside air conditions have little effect on the dehumidification efficiency.

As an added bonus Calorex dehumidifiers will convert latent energy recovered from the air during the dehumidification process into sensible heat. Typically 2.5kW of background heat for every 1kW of power consumed can be given back to the room, so turning unwanted moisture into heat at a fraction of the direct heating cost!
